Tim Spriggs is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Julius Park of the Crazy 88 academy, an affiliate of Lloyd Irvin‘s academy. Born and raised in Columbia, MD (USA), the powerhouse, Spriggs made a career in the lower belt divisions of the sport, utilizing his strong guard passing game to win several important trophies such as a brown belt world title (2014), several Pan American titles and a World Expo GP title, also as a brown belt.

Tim Spriggs Biography

Tim Spriggs was born on the 10th of October, 1991 in Columbia, Maryland, in the United States of America. Spriggs became interested in martial arts at the age of 16, after watching the first season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) series, a reality show where the participants are mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters.

In an interview given to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Eastern Europe website in 2013, Spriggs mentions that after an unsuccessful football season as a freshman, he decided to abandon the sport to focus on martial arts. He first took karate lessons, which lasted about 1 year. Noticing that these sessions lacked efficiency in a real-life situation, he quit, looking for a more realistic form of combat.

After leaving Karate aside, Spriggs found that there was a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy near his house and decided to try it. That place was the Crazy 88 academy, led by Julius Park, a coach that was with Tim throughout all belts, including his black belt, received in August 2014. The belt ceremony was hosted by Lloyd Irvin, leader of the team to which the ‘Crazy 88’ academy is affiliated.

Already a well-known figure in the American circuit, Spriggs really made a mark as one of the top athletes in the world after his victory at the World Expo GP in 2013. Beating most of the top brown belts in the world, including a tough final against another highly regarded brown belt, Thiago Sá Fortes.
