Diogo “Moreno” Sampaio Araujo Biography

Diogo Araújo was born on the 30th of April, 1984 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He started training Jiu Jitsu much due to his father’s influence. as his father was a fan of the Brazilian Martial Art who had never found time to train.

Moreno started practicing BJJ with professor Munir at Vila da Penha, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro where Diogo grew up. He moved at a later stage to the academy of Marcos Carvalho where he met the guys that would later form the Soul Fighters team (Bruno “Tanque”, Augusto “Tanquinho”, Rafael “Formiga” among a few others). Master Carvalho graded Diogo Sampaio in his blue and purple belts, but as the Soul Fighters team started taking shape and “Tanquinho” took over the main classes and the responsibility of grading the students, it was Augusto Tanquinho also who awarded Diogo Araujo his brown belt, and his black belts. The black belt was given after winning the Rio Open in 2010 still standing on the podium.

Diogo Sampaio Araujo taught for a long time with his good friend Mario Vitor at the Evidence Academy in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro he has since moved to the United States.

  • Gostaría que todo o mundo soubesse como que é o inferno a treinar com você – o artigo não falou como que você e um cozinheiro que inventa novos jeitos de esticar o braço na hora 🙂

And in english – I train with this man nearly every day. Anyone going to train and/or compete against him…….gooooooood luck. One of the most creative fighters I´ve ever trained with

The birth date is not right. 04/30/1986

    • bjjheroes says:

Nope, I interviewed him directly, his birthday is correct. Unless it changed it since the last time we spoke 😉

It must have been a mistake while typing. But if you wanna keep that way there is no problem.
        Sorry to bother you.

If this is Diogo, you have my email and you know I speak Portuguese. You can private email me with any corrections if you like. Otherwise, I'm not taking unconfirmed comments on here, sorry.

Great Bio! however there are a few corrections. Diogo fights at Medio Pesado, not Peso Pesado and his Birthday IS wrong. It should be 1986. Also, if you could please add his win at the Las Vegas Summer Open, it would be greatly appreciated. (Gold at MH and Absolute). Thanks and great job on all the pages! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via his FB Fan Page or my personal email.
