Patrick Gaudio Biography
Patrick Gaudio was born on the 22nd of July, 1993 in Rio de Janeiro. Being the son of a famous jiu-jitsu black belt, it didn’t come as a surprise to many that Patrick started learning this fighting style from an early age.
Fabiano Gaudio, Patrick’s father, was one of the first coaches in Brazil to open a gym project with the sole purpose of helping the poor communities around him. His intent was to keep kids off the streets, giving them a purpose, objectives, and a way out of drug-related crime. Fabiano’s innovative project, named ‘Projeto Existe Uma Esperança‘ bumped into a lot of resistance at first, in a time when jiu-jitsu was associated with violence, and not seen as a safe option for a crime-ridden area. Proving many people wrong, Fabiano developed many highly skilled jiu-jitsu athletes such as Davi Ramos, Fabiana Borges, Leonardo ‘Ligeirinho’ and many others who were inserted in society through the sport. It was at ‘Projeto Existe Uma Esperança‘ that Patrick Gaudio started training, at the age of 4.
As a teenager, Patrick started causing waves, earning the blue belt junior title in 2009. He continued being successful in a number of international and national tournaments, training with his father and his father’s coach at the Top Brothers Academy. When Fabiano Gaudio moved away from Rio de Janeiro, to the state of Espirito Santo, Patrick asked permission to train with Julio Cesar Pereira at the Grappling Fight Team (GFT) headquarters. The reason being that GFT had a more dynamic team, with several international champions.
The change was a success, and Gaudio continued piling up results in the lower belts which ultimately led to his black belt, handed by his father in June 2014, after 7 months as a brown belt where Patrick earned a world title and a world professional cup title.
