Jhonny Loureiro

Jhonny Loureiro is a Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt under Mário Reis, being also one of Alliance‘s the top middleweight competitors. Jhonny achieved the rank of black belt in 2015 after a rampant brown belt campaign where he won 32 gold medals in the Brazilian and international grappling circuits, including Brazilian National, South American and Grapplers Quest titles as well as a World No-Gi Silver medal.

Jhonny Loureiro Biography

Jhonny Loureiro was born on December 1st, 1987 in Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul – Brasil.

Loureiro’s parents were very sports orientated, owning one of Porto Alegre’s top gyms with a variety of modalities readily available. As a consequence Jhonny started practising a range of sports from when he was a toddler. These included football (soccer), swimming, volleyball, even judo and karate. But mostly, triathlon.

When Jhonny turned 14 years of age, the gym added jiu jitsu classes, and it didn’t take long for Loureiro to add BJJ to his long list of sporting activities. As he grew fonder of grappling and competition, Jhonny decided to join a more competitive jiu jitsu environment, enrolling in Mário Reis‘ academy as a blue belt.

Being a very hard working individual, Jhonny managed to finish his physical education university degree, while also working as a technical advisor, coordinator and personal trainer at his family’s gym. Once he received his degree, at the age of 24, Loureiro decided to focus solely on his development as a grappler, becoming a full time athlete.

His efforts paid off on June 22, 2015 when Jhonny was promoted to black belt by his long time instructor, Mario Reis, after valiant campaigns in the coloured belt divisions.
