Miguel Ángel Alderete Biography
Miguel Ángel Alderete was born on March 11, 1989, in Adrogue – Buenos Aires province in Argentina, though he moved with his family to Burzaco (also in the Buenos Aires Province) at an early age where he grew up and initiated his martial arts career.
Miguel’s first steps into combat sports came at the age of 20, through kickboxing. As he got better in striking, his coach believed Miguel could have a career in mixed martial arts if he added good ground fighting basics. Following his kickboxing instructor’s advice, Ángel started grappling (age 21), his tuition being handled by Damian Srur (Mario Sukata student).
Miguel Ángel went from white to purple belt with coach Srur, but as his interest grew for jiu-jitsu, Alderete sought a more professional jiu-jitsu environment, spending time in Brazil with Cicero Costha, who promoted Miguel to brown belt.
Miguel would later link with the Nova União academy, particularly Eduardo (Dudu) Duarte. It was while being under Dudu’s tutelage that Alderete medalled at one of 2015’s biggest jiu-jitsu events, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in Rio de Janeiro. A tournament where Miguel medalled, earning also his black belt from coach Duarte, following the event, in January 2016. These achievements led Miguel Ángel Alderete to become a professional jiu-jitsu competitor and coach.
On his first big tournament as a black belt, the Brazilian Nationals of 2016, Miguel proved his worth by earning a silver medal, an achievement conquered with solid victories over established black belts such as Dimitrius Souza and Felipe Cranivata.
