Marcel Louzado Biography

Marcel Louzado was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and it was there that he started practicing Jiu-Jitsu in the early 1990s. He went through the ranks fighting for the Godoi/Macaco school, a school led by two of the most famous Sao Paulo black belts, Jorge Patino and Roberto Godoi. When the team split in 2001, Louzado kept on Godoi’s side and it was him who awarded Marcel his black belt in 2002.

With all the turmoil surrounding the team at that time, Louzado ended switching camps and moving to the (then) recently formed Master Team, Master as an organization had a short term life and soon most of its team members moved on to found Brasa, and Marcelo followed. Marcel had also a short spell at TT (a team formed by Terere and Eduardo Telles), but as soon as Checkmat was born, Louzado signed up and became one of their strongest competitors (as he had been for all of his previous teams). He led the Checkmat Nogi team to a world title in 2007.

Since arriving in the USA, Marcel has raised a successful academy in California; he has also helped several professional MMA fighters with their groundwork. Fighters such as Jason Miller, King Mo Lawal, Mark Muñoz, Jake Ellenberger and many others.
